Testimonials

Tim Falkenberg is one of the finest young men I’ve had the pleasure to work with in my twelve years running a music and entertainment magazine. He is sharp, driven and most importantly, incredibly organized. In the two years that he was responsible for the Movies sub-section of our company he almost singlehandedly built it into the second most important part of our company, and an outstanding competitive voice in the world of film criticism.

He first came to me upon a simple opening looking for contributors for movie news. At that time, we were known only as a music magazine, but we were seeking the ability to expand our presence in the verticals of TV, games and film. After a few conversations, Tim came onboard and spearheaded the new movies section. After giving him introductory guidance and a sense of our goals for the new initiative, he quickly put together the first team that ultimately began what we now think of as mxdwn Movies. After a year of dedicated focused efforts, his aims had produced such consistent, reliable output that the green light was given to expand the efforts beyond mere news coverage into his team doing reviews and editorial coverage for movies as well.

Fast forward one year more, and the team was rife with expert film criticism and immense editorial coverage, the likes of which was not even thought possible for us when the aim of having a movie site was even dreamed up. Under his tutelage and vision mxdwn Movies is a force to be reckoned with. It was his guidance, clarity of organization, prospecting and sharp thinking that helped construct something this effortless and amazing.

Tim would be a tremendous asset to any company that hired him. Whether it be in the role of writer or leader, he is one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of having as a part of my company.

— Ray Flotat, Editor-in-Chief, Mxdwn.com

I’ve worked with Tim on three projects. He pushes me to clean up sloppy passages, cut slow ones and the overly purple descriptions or to take my time with rushed action sections. He’s also been invaluable at suggesting structural changes that greatly improve the narrative. In short, he helps the writer better tell his unique story. I intend to continue getting his editing services.

— Matt Titus, Author, A Marble and the Monkey King & Billy Vane and the Faerie Bane

I say without any hesitation or embellishment that Tim is above and beyond the best editor to ever work on my words. Not only does he (of course) have an impeccable sense of grammar (which, as you can tell, I am sorely lacking), but he is brilliant enough to understand my madness – honing it into comprehensibility, slicing off the bizarre tangents that make everyone (myself included) horrifically uncomfortable – and offering the guidance I always knew I needed but never knew where to find.

Truly, since I have done my own work as an editor, I realize how excellent he is at crafting meaning out of someone else’s words. Many editors fall into the typical trap of massaging the writer’s words into a style that better fits their own, but Tim isn’t satisfied with taking that kind of easy road out. Instead, he offers direction and analysis, pointed clues how to fix the weak areas in a piece without letting the author’s own voice be supplemented by his. And for that lesson I am grateful and have henceforth followed his example in my own career.

To any writer, putting words to a page is not so much a choice but a need…Tim has provided exemplary leadership of Mxdwn Movies in both subtle and broad strokes. With thoroughly stocked research outlets, sensitive dissections of drafts, and thoughtful analysis, working with Tim has been wonderful, but more importantly, has made me a better writer.

— James Tisch, Journalist

Tim has been a fantastic editor and co-writer. His suggestions have helped me focus my ideas, evaluate topics from different perspectives, and produce better-developed articles. Our discussion articles have also been a fun way to discuss various issues related to movies in a different format than the traditional one-person piece. Moreover, he gives good, prompt, and clear feedback and is always willing to discuss his recommendations.
