In August of 2015, I joined New Media Rockstars the Managing Editor for the website (the company also has a YouTube channel).
I joined the company in a time of transition; whereas the site had previously focused exclusively on YouTube and YouTuber news, I was brought on to lead a shift to more editorial and analytical content with a focus on a wider swath of geek and internet culture. My job was to find and marshall a team of freelance writers who could deliver sharable, expert articles for hardcore fanbases of properties like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. All while staying under a tight budget, of course.
During my tenure I grew our readership while making this shift, averaging more than 600,000 sessions and nearly 2 million pageviews monthly, or about 100,000 sessions per month more than the rest of 2015. With a newly implemented social media strategy, I also helped grow our following on Facebook and Twitter by nearly 1000 followers on each platform in just over two months.
I left New Media Rockstars at the end of January 2016 due to budget cuts and corporate restructuring by the parent company, Zealot Networks, but I’m immensely proud of the work my team put out and very grateful for the SEO and Google Analytics expertise I gained on the job.
You can find everything I wrote for New Media Rockstars here, although my fingerprints are all over nearly every piece of content published during my time at the site.
