I have a distinct memory from a time when I was about four, and I made a giant pile in the middle of our living room of what had to be every book I owned and told my mom I wanted to read them all. As in, “Drop what you’re doing, this is how we’re spending the rest of the day.”
I was pretty lucky to have parents who encouraged me to read, and even read to me for years. When I was young, I had a book series going with each of my parents: My mom read me Boxcar Children, my dad read me Little House on the Prairie. And I read plenty else besides.
In the summer of 2013, I came across a Buzzfeed list entitled, “The 65 Books You Need to Read in Your 20s.” Miraculously lacking a book I was in the middle of at the time, I decided to embark on the list. And then I thought, What if I blogged about reading through the list as I went? And then I thought, How much more fun would that be to do with someone? So I enlisted a good friend of mine and off we went.
As it tends to do, life got busy with other commitments, and the Bird and Bee Book Review, always a casual side project in our eyes, fell a bit by the wayside in early 2015. Still, we read and talked about some great books in our time maintaining the blog.
